July

I would have expected the water to be low and the fish very spooky by July but it is not so.  The water level and fly fishing in our Northeast Iowa streams is perfect.  We have had a few hot days which made for some hard afternoon fishing but that was easily forgotten by successful mornings.

The 4th of July weekend was a perfect time to be on the water.  To my surprise the water was not crowded.  By Monday morning, Art and I had the stream to ourselves and we took advantage of it.  We saw caddis and mayflies all morning but the fish were not rising to them so we fished soft hackels and pheasant tails with no bead.  This proved to be successful.

If you have not gotten out on the water this summer, now is the time.  If you are new to the area and not sure where to go, or are new to the sport of fly fishing, you can book a trip with us and we can help you get started.

Thanks again Art.

Rain

We have had some rain this week in Decorah but the water levels are still good.  Should have some nice weather in Northeast Iowa this weekend.  I will be out on the streams this weekend so I will have a fly fishing update next week.

Water update

If you are thinking about going fishing this weekend the water looks great.  Some streams are a little high but others are perfect.  The weather should be nice so if your not going to the fly fishing expo get out and fish.

First sign of Spring

Happy 2011!

One of the first signs of spring is coming up next month.  The Hawkeye Fly Fishing Associations Annual Fly Fishing Show.  It will be held in Des Monies this year February 25-27.  Check out their website for all the details.  It’s a great way to get out of the house and talk fly fishing for a few days.

If you have not seen the new link on our home page, we are now on facebook so feel free to add us as a friend.  We are looking forward to another good year.

Sept 8th

Went fishing on the North Bear tonight with my old fly fishing partner Valli.  She has not been on the stream much this year but enjoyed her self tonight.

The North Bear is getting a make over.  We saw some new stream work that looks like  it has just been completed.

The water down stream of  the stream work was a little off color but not bad.  Up stream the color was great.  We got a lot of rain last week so the flow is perfect.

Caught fish on midges and 18 pheasant tails.  It was a very nice night to fish.  Fall is my favorite time to fish and I think it is here.
